Dr Pamela Douglas MBBS, PhD, FRACGP, FABM, IBCLC is a general practitioner,
researcher, and breastfeeding medicine doctor. She is passionate about whole patient care
and transdisciplinary generalism (in clinical practice and as a lens for interpreting research),
with a three-decades-long special interest in clinical approaches which optimise perinatal
and infant mental health. Pam has published about 30 paradigm-shifting research papers in
the domains of breastfeeding and feeds, sleep, and infant cry-fuss challenges – which
interact and co-evolve and are key modifiable risk factors for postnatal anxiety and
depression. She’s used implementation science to translate this evidence-base into
genuinely holistic and integrated perinatal care in the programs for parents and health
professionals known as Neuroprotective Developmental Care (NDC or the Possums
programs possums.org). 

In recent years Pam has also developed the comprehensive NDC
Lactation Fellowship, a two-year course in breastfeeding medicine which contests
ideological lenses, unnecessary pathologisation, and fragmented care in service of the
whole family’s mental health and wellbeing. Pam is an Adjunct Associate Professor, School
of Medicine, Griffith University, and Senior Lecturer, School of Medicine, The University of
Queensland. She is author of The Discontented Little Baby Book, also available in Italian
and Dutch.
