Dr Annie Fonda

MBBS (Hons) | FRACGP | MPH | FASPM

Dr Annie Fonda is a Psychological Medicine GP based at the Grass Tree Group in Spring Hill, Brisbane. With over 20 years’ experience as a GP, she brings together the science of medicine with the depth of body-mind psychotherapy, working across complex medical and mental-health settings. She also holds a public position as a Mental Health GP within the Mater Hospital’s Catherine’s House for Mothers, Babies and Families Perinatal service.

Annie’s clinical focus is complex trauma, including PTSD and complex PTSD, and perinatal mental health, supporting adults and families through pregnancy, birth, and the early years of parenthood, as well as trauma recovery more broadly. She is an Accredited EMDR Practitioner and a Master Practitioner in Relational-Integrative EMDR (RI-EMDR), with further training in EMDR 2.0 and Reconsolidation Therapy. Her preferred therapeutic modalities integrate somatic approaches and parts-based work within an EMDR framework, alongside training in Circle of Security Facilitator Training and Perinatal Infant Mental Health. Her practice is collaborative, evidence-based, and grounded in compassion.

What do you do to relax?

Spending time with my family, gardening, music and dancing.

Favourite book/ Reading at the moment?

I’m loving the John O’ Donohue  “Anam Cara, A book of Celtic Wisdom”. Beautiful writing, mixing poetry, philosophy and relationality.

Why have you decided to join the ASPM Board?

I’ve received so much through the mentorship of other ASPM members over the years, and a real sense of belonging among like-minded GPs who understand this work. Joining the board is my way of giving back; supporting the field and championing the unique skills GPs bring as key mental health practitioners.
