SUMMARY:FPS-T in Eating Disorders with Dr Susan Barnett & Dr Karen Spielman
DESCRIPTION:Designed for busy clinicians\, this course is delivered over three consecutive weeks in interactive 2-hour online sessions each Tuesday evening. \nEach session focuses on a dedicated module\, allowing you to build your knowledge and confidence step-by-step\, with time to reflect and apply your learning in practice between sessions: \n• Week 1 (Session 1): Module 1: Tues 02 Jun 2026 @7:00pm – 9:00pm\n• Week 2 (Session 2): Module 2: Tues 09 Jun 2026 @7:00pm – 9:00pm\n• Week 3 (Session 3): Module 3: Tues 16 Jun 2026 @7:00pm – 9:00pm \nThis flexible\, spaced learning approach supports practical skill development and meaningful integration into everyday general practice. \nLearning outcomes: \nBy the end of this program\, participants will be able to: \n\nRecognise a broad range of eating disorder presentations in general practice\nConduct appropriate medical\, psychological and risk assessments for eating disorders\nIdentify red flags and determine when escalation of care is required\nUtilise evidence-based screening tools\, GP Hub resources and Eating Disorder Plans appropriately\nMatch evidence-based therapies to different eating disorder presentations and patient needs\nDevelop practical multidisciplinary management plans\, including family and carer involvement\nApply learning from real-world case discussions to everyday GP practice\n\nOverview: \nThese practical\, GP-focused modules introduce a clear and clinically relevant approach to identifying and managing eating disorders in primary care. Grounded in psychological and trauma-informed principles\, these sessions explore how eating disorders present across different populations and why they are often missed or misdiagnosed. \nParticipants will build confidence in conducting comprehensive assessments\, recognising key clinical patterns\, and responding appropriately to positive screening results. The modules also outline the GP’s critical role in ongoing care\, including medical monitoring\, therapeutic engagement\, and gaining a broader understanding of the different types of eating disorder therapies available and how to match them for your different patients in a general practice setting. \nDesigned for busy clinicians\, these sessions emphasise real-world skills\, non-judgmental communication\, and strategies to support early intervention and improved patient outcomes. \nAccreditation: \nThis course has been accredited with both the RACGP & ACRRM for CPD hours. It has also been approved for MH_CPD and FPS_CPD through the GPMHSC. Upon completion\, if you are a member with either college\, you will be awarded 2 Educational Activity hours and 4 Reviewing Performance hours. \nCompletion also enables FREE ANZAED credentialing. \n
